Krishna Janmashtami is the birthday of Lord Krishna. I am sharing some Janmashtami recipes for prasad and fast. Janmashtami is celebrated in different ways in different parts of India. In North India, people fast on this day. Special jhanki (tableau) is made in temples and houses showing birth and childhood of Lord Krishna. Mumbai is famous for dahi handi competition in Janmashtami.
Any festival is incomplete without special food preparations. Many people keep fast on this day. There can be different traditions in different household. But generally people eat fruits, milk products, nuts and dry fruits as phalahar during fasting. Here are some Janmashtami recipes for prasad and fast.

Usually people are allowed to eat potatoes, arvi/arbi (colocasia), green vegetables, samak ke chawal, singhare ka atta, and kuttu ka atta. You cannot take common salt though. Instead of that, you can take rock salt (sendha namak).
Please check with your family elders about what ingredients are you can eat during fast and adjust the recipe accordingly.

Kuttu Ki Barfi
Kuttu ki barfi can be offered as bhog
Make these phalahari barfis with buckwheat flour commonly known as kuttu ka atta in India. You can offer these as bhog during Janmashtami pujan. First of all pan roast kuttu atta/buckwheat flour with some ghee. Then add sugar syrup and allow the mixture to set on a greased plate. Lord Krishna loved milk and milk products. So here is a recipe of kalakand that you can offer as bhog and also, consume during phalahar. Traditionally making of kalakand involves slow cooking of milk, and then partially curdling it with alum. But here I will share a quick method to make it using sweetened condensed milk.
