Many times we become slaves of our mood swings. Sometimes we crave for eating something sweet, and we may not find anything to our liking available at home. It’s such a big disappointment. It has happened to me innumerable times. Always on a weight watch (without any good result to show ;)) ) I prefer not to keep sweet dishes at home if possible. But who can help if there is a strong food craving. I recently wanted to eat chocolate cake. I searched the net, and found various ways to quickly make a cake. I tweaked and experimented with few recipes, and here I had lovely Nutella chocolate mug cake in two minutes. In fact it took one and a half minutes of cooking in microwave.
No complicated ingredients or difficult steps. Even someone who doesn’t cook can make it. Moreover the taste is awesome! I video recorded the steps. You can watch the video here.
After this successful attempt, now I am planning to share few more easy to make microwave recipes. Meanwhile you can also try dessert recipes of fruit trifle pudding and bhappa doi, that are also very easy to make, and do not require much cooking.
For this mug cake I took a big microwave proof mug, and added all the ingredients straight to the mug. Then I stirred all the contents properly, put it in microwave, and my cake was ready in no time. I did not want a burnt cake, so I kept checking the contents after every thirty seconds. The cooking time depends upon the microwave, and voltage. Therefore it is prudent to keep checking the cake at frequent intervals. Generally it will take from one to two minutes, depending upon your microwave. We want slightly under cooked and gooey cake, and not overcooked or burnt cake.
Delicious Nutella chocolate mug cake
I have used nutella in the recipe. Instead, if you want you can replace it with peanut butter. You can also add chocolate chips or roasted hazelnuts. I have topped the cake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. If you want to eat plane cake, eat it as it is. You can also top it with whipped cream. Use your imagination, and make combinations of your choice.
Add all the ingredients one by one to a largish microwave proof mug.
Stir and mix the contents of the mug properly. I used a fork, and it served the purpose. If you have anything better to mix the ingredients, use it.
Check for any lumps of dry ingredient left in the mug. Scratch the bottom properly to be sure no flour is sticking in the corners of the mug. When first time I made the cake, I found white lump of flour stuck at the corners of the mug while eating the cake.
Put the mug in microwave and microwave the contents on high for 1 minute. Open and check the contents. Microwave for another 30 seconds and check the contents once again. Keep repeating this step till the cake is done. Do not over cook the cake. In fact it should be slightly under cooked. If you prefer fully baked cake, then microwave accordingly. Mine was done in 1 minute and 30 seconds. Time differ for different microwaves.
Once done, take out the mug. Your cake is ready to be consumed. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce on the top as I did. Other option is to add some whipped cream on top.
Enjoy this 2 minutes chocolate cake when it is still hot!
Take a slightly large mug. The contents expand and tend to fall off the mug, when we microwave. You can also keep a microwave proof plate or tray below the mug to avoid soiling of the microwave in case of spillage.
Be careful when you take out the mug after microwaving. The mug as well as content might be very hot.
You can add chocolate chips, roasted hazelnut, or dry fruits, raisins etc. in the cake if you want.
