Easy strawberry banana smoothie recipe

In this page you will find an easy strawberry banana smoothie recipe. In this recipe all healthy organic ingredients are used.

My daughter is a big fan of strawberry. Be it strawberry flavored ice-cream, yogurt, or for that matter smoothie, she will be the first one to jump on it. It was therefore natural for me to look for ways to incorporate strawberry flavors in my preparations. Smoothies are very filling, and of course refreshing as well. But many recipes call for adding cream or ice-cream in smoothies, making them fattening. I replaced cream with healthier banana and yogurt. They act as thickening agents in smoothie. Strawberries are naturally sour, and I added yogurt/curd that is sour as well. So I had to add sweetening agent to balance the taste. I chose honey over sugar. They both add to the calories no doubt, but honey is considered to be a healthier option.

Making smoothie is pretty easy. In India we do not get fresh strawberries in summers easily. I freeze large amount of strawberries in their season. They come handy in summers when I mostly use them in my desserts and shakes. I had transferred the required amount of strawberries from freezer to refrigerator about an hour before I had to make the smoothie. This helped in softening them a bit. If you are using fresh strawberries, keep them in freezer for about two hours before making the smoothie. Slightly frozen strawberries make the smoothie thick, and chilled. There will be no need to add ice or ice cream then.

I put all the ingredients in a blender and blended them well. I have used four table spoons of honey. If you want you can reduce the quantity of honey. You can replace honey with sugar if you want.

This smoothie is full of nutrients. Strawberries are rich in antioxidants. Apart from that they are loaded with vitamin C. They also have vitamin K, minerals, and dietary fibers. The same goes for bananas. They are one of the most widely eaten fruits in the world. Yogurt is rich in probiotics, as well as animal proteins, vitamins and minerals. Honey of course is a power house of antioxidants. It is known world over for its anti fungal, anti inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. So you get it. Drinking this smoothie is going to do lots of good to your health. But keep in mind it is also rich in calories.

Instructions
  1. Keep frozen strawberries out of freezer for sometime so that they are not very hard. If you are using fresh strawberries, then keep them in freezer for about two hours so that they are partially frozen. Put these strawberries in a mixer blender. Peel and dice banana, and add to the blender jar. Also add yogurt and honey.
  2. Blend it all to smooth consistency. If you find that there are still small chunks of fruits in the smoothie, strain the content, and press the fruits so that they are mashed and come out of the strainer.
  3. Serve chilled. Decorate the glass with strawberry slices for good looks.
Recipe Notes
TIPS:
  • Use frozen strawberries that are partially thawed. This makes the smoothie thick and chilled.
  • You can use sugar in place of honey. Also adjust the amount of honey according to your taste. I have used four tablespoons for two glasses of smoothie. I thought this was needed to neutralize the sour taste. If you want less sweet smoothie reduce the amount of honey.
  • Use fresh yogurt that is not very sour. You can also use Greek yogurt. If the smoothie is very thick, add some milk.
